Rain and caterpillars!

We are very pleased to tell you that over the last few days the rains have been quite heavy! This is great news – the grass is growing, and the hills and plains are green! We hope this continues for some time, so that the animals, both wild and domestic can become healthy and strong again.

We have also noticed a lot of beautiful caterpillars appearing. We don’t know what they are called- can anyone help?

We hope you all have a good weekend, blessed with lots of rain like us!

thank God for the rain! the ground looks green and so pretty. and about this bug; scary to me. but again it will turn to one beautiful butterfly one day!

Hi – the caterpillars are of an Emperor Moth (Family Saturnidae) – these can grow quite large before they are ready to pupate. This one looks like a species of Bunaea – what plant are they feeding on?

Thank God for the rain! Creator heard our prayers! The pictures are so beautiful. I’m praying we get some rain here. Our land is very dry and the Tribal and free range horses and cows are a little thin right now. We all must fight global warming. It is destroying everything!
Seeing the animals grazing on that beautiful green land makes my heart sing!

    Hi Dino,

Gwili from MPT here. I live with the LG team and we’ve been really interested in all the caterpillars that have suddenly invaded the area and have lots of pics of the other species. The one’s pictured here appear to be feeding solely on the young leaves of the acacia nilotica.

I’d love to hear more info on them!

    Cheers,

    Gwili

Such wonderful news! You can’t imagine how I’ve been waiting to hear these news from your area. As I’ve been away I’m just now catching up on the news and will make a small donation towards the games. When are you planning to have the games?

  • Thank you so much for your comments. Hashi – we are all sorry to hear that you are also having problems with lack of rain and that animals are suffering.

Dino – thank you very much for identifying the caterpillars, which all seem to come down the Acacia trees at the same time every morning and all walk off in the same direction!

Pirjo – thank you so much for your well wishes, and for your donation to the Games. We will be holding them between Christmas and New Year, and there will be another blog very soon with more details.
