Community without borders
Between August 12th – 15th, more than twenty community members from two Tanzanian sites, in Tarangire and Ngorongoro, visited our Lion Guardians core project in the Amboseli ecosystem, Kenya. Here, they met with elected leaders, government officials, tenured Guardians, community members and other stakeholders to learn about the Lion Guardians program. The group was comprised of community-chosen representatives that were both in support of and against having a community-driven lion conservation project in their areas.
The three-day visit went very well and the initial skeptics soon turned into avid supporters as they witnessed first-hand the benefits of the program.
The community-chosen representatives are now back in their respective communities holding meetings. They will share what they learned to help the community collectively decide if they want a Lion Guardians project in their area. We look forward to hearing the communities’ decision and will hopefully update you with the good news shortly!
